ABOUT STEVEN FEIFKE:
"On each of the aforementioned songs, and on every single original number, there are solos and surface elements to admire, be they funky, fiery or friendly. But that doesn't tell the whole story. Feifke packs so many subtle things into these songs, so each listen reveals something new. He artfully weaves fleeting riffs, background figures, and twists into his own designs, giving his septet plenty to work with. But the music doesn't collapse under the weight of intricacy. Feifke is an arranger-composer with good sense, always cognizant of how much is enough and how much is too much. He's a composer who's found his own sound, a pianist with a firm command of the instrument, and an all-around monster talent with a bright future ahead." Dan Bilawsky, All About Jazz
Steven Feifke, born June 21st 1991, is a New York City based bandleader, pianist, composer and arranger. Feifke frequently works as a musical director, and in addition to his work within the jazz world, he has written music featured in film, television and theater, and conducts large ensemble recording sessions as well. In 2014, at age 24, he was commissioned by the 23Arts Initiative to write a genre defying arrangement of Gershwin's symphonic "Rhapsody In Blue" to feature his big band and guest concert pianist. Today his big band can be seen regularly performing in New York at the Django, and also at Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola.
As a pianist, Feifke maintains an active performance schedule both in and out of New York City with his trio at venues like The Blue Note, Smalls Jazz Club, and Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola at Lincoln Center. At age 20, Feifke was a semifinalist in the 2011 Thelonious Monk Competition. He loves making music of all kinds, and enjoys playing often as a sideman with his friends and artistic collaborators. Feifke's debut record as a bandleader is called "Peace In Time," and features twelve tracks comprised of original and arranged work for his septet. Feifke currently resides in New York City, and holds a bachelors degree in music and a minor in economics from New York University.
