Robert Rodriguez Trio

Robert Rodriguez is an American-Cuban Jazz pianist and composer from Miami. Robert began to tour the world at the age of 22 as an instrumentalist with virtuoso trumpeter Arturo Sandoval which culminated in many recordings including the score to HBO’s “For Love or Country” starring Andy Garcia, an album produced by Quincy Jones, Emilio Estefan “Trumpet Evolution”. The highlight of this early period was the opportunity to record and perform live with Chick Corea on a live Album and DVD titled Jam Miami. Already a musical hero to Robert, Chick became a personal mentor and continual source of inspiration for the young pianist. Robert then moved to NYC and began to record and tour with The Rodriguez Brothers band with brother Michael Rodriguez. Concurrently, Robert also began performing and recording with many jazz legends and notable artists including percussionist Ray Barretto and drummer Roy Haynes, Saxophonist David Sanchez, Joe Locke, Paquito D’Rivera, Christian Mcbride, Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Richard Bona, Caribbean Jazz Project and many others.

Robert has received commissions and awards from ASCAP, Chamber Music of America and New York Foundation for the Arts. He has recorded on several Grammy nominated albums including Ray Barretto (Time is Time Was) and Carlos Henriquez (The South Bronx Story) and as an artist Robert was nominated for a Grammy for Best Latin Jazz Album alongside his brother Michael Rodriguez for their album Impromptu, The Rodriguez Brothers. In 2017 he served on the Faculty at Berklee school of Music and worked in directing ensembles and composition classes alongside Terence Blanchard and his program. In 2018 Robert (credited as Robert Rospide) scored the motion picture Imprisoned starring Laurence Fishburne and has then scored numerous films including the Award winning short Piel Canela. Robert currently resides in Los Angeles composing music for films, performing with his trio and The Rodriguez Brothers.
