Nicolaus Gelin is a trumpeter, composer, and multidisciplinary artist based in Los Angeles. Born in Miami, Florida, his musical journey began long before he picked up the trumpet. Raised in a family where music was woven into everyday life, his mother and sister sang in their church choir, and his grandfather, a guitarist and harmonica player, gave him his first harmonica at the age of three.
Gelin began his studies on violin before discovering the trumpet at age twelve, an instrument that would become central to his artistic voice. His path led him from the Miami-Dade Youth Orchestra and Young Musicians Unite to New World School of the Arts, and eventually to the Manhattan School of Music, where he studied with Ingrid Jensen, Nadje Noordhuis, and Jon Faddis.
