Los Angeles-based guitarist, vocalist, bandleader, arranger, and composer John Storie released his album "Ponderosa" in 2019 as a duo with Josh Nelson. Comprising a mix of jazz and folk influences, Storie presents the music from that album, this time with a very special quartet.

Sam First, 6171 W Century Blvd #180, Los Angeles, CA 90045, USA

John Storie (guitar), Josh Nelson (piano), Mike Gurrola (bass), Mark Ferber (drums)

John Storie is a Los Angeles-based guitarist, vocalist, bandleader, arranger, and composer.  As a headliner for major international festivals and venues, he performs with the world-renown Mildred Snitzer Orchestra with actor/pianist Jeff Goldblum, and the award-winning New West Guitar Group. The Jeff Goldblum/Mildred Snitzer Orchestra’s debut album on Decca Records, “Capitol Studio’s Sessions”, topped #16 on the Billboard emerging artists charts, #1 on the Billboard Jazz charts, and was voted “Best New Artist” by JazzTimes in the 2018 music poll. Their latest release “I Shouldn’t Be Telling You This” is currently climbing the charts and features Miley Cyrus, Fiona Apple, Gregory Porter, Inara George, Sharon Van Etten, Gina Saputo, and Anna Calvi.

In 2019, John released a new project featuring pianist Josh Nelson called “Ponderosa”. This album features Storie also as a vocalist, with his own songs and covers ranging from Woody Guthrie to Sergio Mendes.

Since 2005, Storie has been the co-founder of the New West Guitar Group - a guitar trio based in LA and NYC featuring original compositions as well as arrangements of classic standards and pop covers. NWGG has performed at the Java Jazz Festival in Jakarta, Amerikafest in Berlin, Philippine International Jazz Festival, as well as festivals and venues in the US including Britt Fest, Rochester Jazz Festival, Yoshi’s, Subculture NYC, and the Blue Whale.
