Sam First, 6171 W Century Blvd #180, Los Angeles, CA 90045, USA

Ethan Chilton’s music is comforting yet sophisticated, dense but sonically balanced, and driven by emotional intent. With his latest record, The Planets, Ethan delivers nine spell-binding pieces, one inspired by each of the planets in our solar system.

Ethan is an award-winning trumpet player and composer of contemporary music from Merced, CA. He graduated from the University of Southern California’s Jazz Studies program in 2020 after studying with Bob Mintzer, Vince Mendoza, Alan Pasqua, Aaron Serfaty, Michael Stever, Tom Hooten, and David Binney, among others. He was selected as one of ten jazz trumpeters in the country for the 2020 National Trumpet Competition. However, it was canceled due to COVID, and he never had a chance to compete. That same year he won a national composition prize (the Irwin Kostal Scholarship) for his piece “string quartet no. 1”, recorded in Amsterdam. In Spring of 2022 he will be studying further with Donald Crockett, the chair of USC’s prestigious composition department.
