Anthony Wilson New Nonet: Live Recording for Sam First Records

A nonet was Anthony Wilson’s ensemble of choice for some of his early albums, including his very first, which was nominated for a Grammy award in 1997. Inspired by bands led by composers such as Gil Evans, George Russell, and Duke Pearson, as well as by urban blues guitarists such as T-Bone Walker, B.B. King, and Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown, Wilson’s nonet has the agility to operate like a small band, and can also create a sound and feel much more like a big band.
